As new parents we all have many worrying issues about how to look after our newborn baby. This baby is solely dependent on us for all of it’s needs and we want to be there and make sure we do everything we can to do this right. Sleep is a major part of baby’s life for the first few months after it is born. We can make sure baby has a safe sleep by using the checklist below.
1. Always use a crib sheet that fits snuggly around the mattress. If you don’t have crib sheets which have elastic around them you can buy the clips to hold the corners of the sheet together.
2. Only use bumper pads which fit around the entire crib and tie or snap securely into place. Bumper ties must not exceed nine inches.
3. Use bumper pads until baby can pull into a standing position, because you don’t want baby to stand on them and climb out of the crib.
4. Baby should only sleep in an infant bed and never on pillows, waterbed, beanbag or any other place not intended for baby to sleep on.
5. Remove pillows, stuffed toys and products not intended as infant bedding from the crib when baby is sleeping.
6. Always put your baby to sleep on his back unless otherwise advised by your physician.
7. Do not overdress your baby as infants cannot regulate body temperature well at this age. When sleeping cover baby with a thin covering such as a crib blanket or coverlet up to baby’s chest and tuck covering around the crib mattress. You could also consider a wearable blanket for baby.
8. Periodically check for loose threads or stitching on the crib bedding sets which could cause gagging or choking.
Now that baby is sleeping safe and soundly, it’s time you also got some rest because it will soon be feeding time again.

Good information. Also, if you haven’t done so, go to http://www.cpsc.gov to check for crib recalls.
