Within a couple of weeks after conception, the development of your baby’s brain has already started. A newborn baby has adequate brain cells to help him do basic functions, through experiences the child’s development progresses.
Parents are very anxious of aiding the development of their children, especially brain development.
There are several aspects that influence a child’s brain development. To enhance it, you need to know these factors:
• Balanced Nutrition. Know the nutrients that can help your baby’s brain capabilities.

• Appropriate Toys. Yes, toys can help make your baby smart. Be familiar with a few guidelines and common misconceptions.
BALANCED NUTRITION
Nutrition can greatly affect a child’s brain development. Malnourished children will likely cause inadequate brain growth thus the child shows a low IQ level. The child also exhibits delayed language grasps and fine motor development.
DHA and ARA are nutrients we can find in many formulated milk brands for babies. Although it is still an issue in certain countries whether to supplement these nutrients in other formulated milk brands, because doing so will also affect the prices, there are no findings of negative effects to our health brought about by DHA and ARA. However, it is a fact that there are studies which can support the claim that DHA and ARA enhances a child’s neural and visual development.
Fish oils are discovered to contain DHA. Oils from cold-water fish have this nutrient in higher amounts. Algae and fungi, eggs, and human breast milk are also good sources. Dietary supplements containing DHA and ARA have also been manufactured and are available in the market.
There are also other nutrients that will enhance a child’s brain development. To improve his aptitude and alertness, a protein-rich diet (egg, fish, meat, beans, peanuts, etc.) will help your child greatly. Carbohydrates fuel the child’s brain that is used in thinking. Natural carbohydrates obtained from whole grain and fruits are much preferred than processed carbohydrates and sugar. They can affect a child’s attention span, focusing ability, and activity level in a negative way. Parents should also ensure that their children get adequate vitamins and minerals.
EFFECTIVE PARENTING
Most of the child’s experiences depend on how much his caregiver allows him to feel, taste, hear, see and smell. Even little experiences through these senses contribute much to a child’s fast learning.
There are other things parents can also do for their children.
- They should practice interaction with their child by talking to them and listening
- They should make their children feel loved and appreciated.
- They should keep them healthy by providing well – balanced meals
- Parents should keep their children safe
- They should provide them a good environment
APPROPRIATE TOYS
A smart toy will help the parents identify their child’s strengths and weaknesses. It can also identify the level of the child’s skills. Several smart toys can also help enhance a child’s creativity, intelligence and other abilities. It is important that parents choose the appropriate toys for their children to make sure they contribute to their brain development.
Traditional toys like building blocks, crayons and puzzles will do as efficiently as the more sophisticated ones even though they are usually cheaper. It is also important that once in a while parents interact with their children when playing.
